Seven Former Cornell Students Face Federal Lawsuit Alleging a Classmate Was Drugged and Gang-Raped at Chi Phi

Seven Former Cornell Students Were Sued Over Allegations of Drugging and Gang-Raping a Classmate

Seven current or former Cornell University students, all associated with the Chi Phi fraternity, were named as defendants in a federal civil lawsuit filed in September 2026.

The lawsuit was brought by a former Cornell student identified publicly as Jane Doe.

Doe alleges that in October 2024 she was drugged and gang-raped over several hours at the Chi Phi fraternity house.

According to the complaint, she had been pressured into consuming alcohol, marijuana, and what she believed was ketamine. She alleges that while she was severely impaired, multiple men sexually assaulted her.

The lawsuit names Matthew Ingalls, Jonathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gilgi Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris, and Scott Kretzschmar as defendants.

Doe reported the alleged assault to Cornell University Police in November 2024. The Tompkins County District Attorney's Office ultimately declined to pursue criminal charges, reportedly citing evidentiary concerns.

Cornell separately conducted a Title IX investigation. According to the information available here, the university expelled two students and suspended others following that process.

The Chi Phi fraternity chapter has since been officially barred from Cornell's campus.

Doe is now pursuing the case through the civil courts, seeking financial compensation and a jury trial.

This distinction is essential: the seven men have not been criminally convicted of the alleged assault, and several have publicly disputed the allegations. A civil lawsuit is not a criminal conviction, and the allegations remain contested.

But declining criminal prosecution does not make a sexual-assault allegation disappear.

A woman says she was drugged and sexually assaulted for hours. Prosecutors declined criminal charges. Now she is taking her allegations into a courtroom herself. The Accountability Archive can document what she says happened without pretending a fucking verdict already exists.
