Rodney Bob Killed His Son's Grandmother and Shot His 8-Month-Old Baby Before Dying by Suicide in Houston
On October 31, 2026, Rodney Bob, 52, shot and killed a 37-year-old woman and critically wounded his own 8-month-old son inside a Houston, Texas, apartment before turning the gun on himself.
The woman was identified as Karie Rae Thomas, the infant's grandmother.
According to investigators, Bob arrived at the apartment around 7:35 p.m. to deliver diapers for his son.
An argument reportedly broke out between Bob and the child's 19-year-old mother.
During the confrontation, Bob pulled out a firearm and shot Thomas in the back.
He then shot his infant son in the abdomen.
The baby's mother managed to escape the apartment with her wounded child and seek help.
When Houston police entered the third-floor residence, they found Thomas and Bob dead. Investigators determined that Bob had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Thomas was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
As of November 2, the baby remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
His mother was not physically injured in the shooting.
The substantial age difference between Bob and the child's mother has also raised concerns among domestic violence advocates about possible power imbalances in their relationship. However, the available information does not establish a documented history of abuse.
Because Bob died, there will be no criminal trial.
Karie Rae Thomas was 37 years old. She was killed during a confrontation involving her daughter and the father of her infant grandson.
That little boy was only eight months old when his father shot him. He survived the initial attack, but his recovery remains uncertain.
