Border Patrol Agent Daniel Spear Sexually Assaulted a 17-Year-Old Girl and Photographed It

Daniel Alfredo Spear spent 18 years in law enforcement, including a career with the U.S. Border Patrol.

Then came the case involving a 17-year-old girl.

She was a friend of his daughter.

In October 2015, Spear took the teenager to a hotel room in Mission Bay, San Diego, where he sexually assaulted her and photographed her in lingerie.

A jury later convicted Spear of three felony counts: digital penetration of a minor, oral copulation of a minor, and using a minor in the production of child sexual abuse material. He was acquitted of additional charges involving cocaine and an intoxicated person.

Spear was fired from the Border Patrol.

In January 2017, he was sentenced to two years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender.

She was 17.

She was his daughter's friend.

He was one of the adults she should have been able to trust. Instead, he sexually assaulted her and turned part of that abuse into photographs.
