Border Patrol Agent Orlando Gomez Coerced a 15-Year-Old Girl Into a Sexual Relationship. He Got 29 Months.

Orlando Gomez was a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

In 2014, Gomez began an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl who was related to his wife and staying with their family.

According to court records, Gomez coerced the teenager into the relationship by threatening to kill himself if she didn't comply.

The abuse continued for nearly two years.

Investigators said the encounters occurred at his home, in local hotels, and even during a trip to Texas.

Gomez was arrested in August 2016 and initially faced multiple felony charges, including criminal sexual penetration of a minor and criminal sexual contact of a minor.

In March 2017, he entered a no-contest plea to two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor between the ages of 13 and 16. Prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges under the plea agreement.

He subsequently retired from his position as a Border Patrol field officer.

On June 29, 2017, Gomez was sentenced to 29 months in state prison, followed by one year of parole.

He was also required to register as a sex offender for life.

She was 15.

She was staying with his family.

And according to court records, a grown man with a federal badge manipulated a child by threatening to kill himself unless she complied.

That's not a relationship. That's fucking coercion.
