David Becker: He Was Accused of Sexually Assaulting Two Classmates. He Left Court Without a Conviction.

In 2016, David Becker was a senior at East Longmeadow High School in Massachusetts when he was accused of sexually assaulting two 18-year-old female classmates while they were asleep or unconscious.

He initially faced multiple criminal charges, including indecent assault and battery.

Then came a plea agreement.

Becker admitted to sufficient facts for a conviction, but Judge Thomas Estes granted him a continuance without a finding. Instead of entering a conviction, the court placed Becker on probation for two years.

He was required to stay away from the victims, abstain from alcohol and drugs, complete a sex-offender evaluation, and write an apology letter.

If he completed probation successfully, the charges could be dismissed.

And they were.

No criminal conviction remained. No requirement to register as a sex offender.

The case became another flashpoint in the national conversation about how courts handle sexual-assault cases involving young men with promising futures.

Two young women were left carrying what happened to them. His criminal case was eventually dismissed.
