Jarvis Toussaint, 40, of Mountain House, California, is a federal defendant with a lengthy criminal record who became involved in a deadly after-hours nightclub shooting in Oakland on March 7, 2026.
The shooting erupted around 3:30 a.m. inside EZ’s Lounge in downtown Oakland.
According to investigators, the confrontation began after 24-year-old Markise Martin showed Toussaint an extended magazine.
Authorities say Toussaint pulled a 10mm handgun and fired seven rounds at Martin, striking him.
Martin returned fire with a fully automatic Glock 29 equipped with an extended magazine, firing approximately 20 rounds.
The exchange left two people dead and five others wounded.
Martin died from his injuries at the hospital.
Lateisha Bobo, 33, an eight-grade English teacher and singer from San Pablo, was an innocent bystander caught in the gunfire. Authorities determined that she was fatally struck by Martin’s gunfire while attempting to flee.
Investigators later identified Toussaint through DNA recovered from a San Francisco Giants baseball hat left at the scene, along with surveillance footage, automated license-plate-reader records, dealership photographs, and records connected to a replacement BMW SUV.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office ultimately declined to charge Toussaint with homicide, concluding that his initial gunfire against Martin could legally constitute self-defense.
But Toussaint is still facing a separate federal case.
Because of his previous felony convictions, federal prosecutors allege he was prohibited from possessing ammunition. In May 2026, a grand jury indicted him on one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Toussaint pleaded not guilty and remains in federal custody. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
The federal ammunition charge remains pending.
Lateisha Bobo went to a nightclub and ended up caught in somebody else's gunfight. She was a teacher. A singer. An innocent woman trying to fucking get away. Her name deserves to be remembered beyond the men exchanging bullets around her.
