Devin Hughes and Kayla Reynolds Tortured Hughes’ 7-Year-Old Niece. They Were Sentenced to 25 Years.

Devin Hughes and Kayla Reynolds of Boulevard, California, were sentenced in September 2026 for the systematic torture and abuse of Hughes' 7-year-old niece.

The case came to light in July 2025 after the child fled the home and went to a neighbor for help.

She showed signs of severe physical trauma, malnutrition, and prolonged abuse.

What investigators uncovered inside the home was horrifying.

Prosecutors said Hughes and Reynolds subjected the little girl to repeated physical abuse and extreme deprivation. The child was chained to a treadmill, forced to remain inside a dog crate for hours, and subjected to other forms of torment.

In March 2026, both defendants pleaded guilty to 15 felony counts, including torture and child abuse.

In September, each was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

This was not discipline that went too far. It was not a bad household or a moment when adults lost control.

It was sustained torture of a seven-year-old child.

And somehow, that little girl got out.

She was seven years old. They chained her to a treadmill. They confined her in a dog crate. They starved and abused her. And that little girl still found enough strength to escape that fucking house and find someone who would help her.
