Dr. John Boyle Murdered His Wife Noreen and Buried Her Beneath a Basement Floor. He Died in Prison.

Dr. John Boyle Murdered His Wife, Buried Her Under a House, and Told Their Son She Had Left

Dr. John F. Boyle Jr. was a successful osteopathic physician in Mansfield, Ohio.

On New Year's Eve 1989, he murdered his estranged wife, Noreen Boyle.

Prosecutors proved that Boyle bludgeoned and suffocated Noreen, then concealed her body beneath the basement floor of a house he was purchasing in Erie, Pennsylvania.

He didn't simply hide her.

He had already bought a jackhammer and other equipment used to dig into the concrete basement floor. Noreen's body was eventually discovered buried beneath fresh concrete, wrapped in plastic and bound.

At the time, Boyle was involved with another woman, who was pregnant with his child.

Noreen had also reportedly become suspicious of the relationship and the couple was going through an increasingly bitter divorce.

But there was someone else caught inside all of this: their 11-year-old son, Collier.

After his mother disappeared, Boyle told his son that she had gone away.

She hadn't.

His father had killed her and buried her beneath a fucking house.

A jury convicted Boyle of aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse in 1990. He was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison and repeatedly sought parole over the following decades.

Every request was denied.

Boyle died in custody on April 18, 2026, at the age of 82.

He never left prison.

Collier Boyle later spent years confronting what happened to his mother, including participating in documentaries about the case and returning to the house where Noreen's body had been hidden.

Noreen didn't disappear. She didn't abandon her son. She was murdered, and the man who killed her let their 11-year-old child believe she had simply left.
