Dustin Dale Johnson Killed Two People During a Violent Rampage Before Police Shot Him

On March 22, 2026, 41-year-old Dustin Dale Johnson carried out a series of violent attacks across Amarillo, Texas, that left two people dead before Johnson was killed during a shootout with police.

The violence began at a storage facility near Loop 335 and North Western Street.

Authorities determined that Johnson forced his way into the business and shot and killed Aaron “Bacon” Harper and Courtney Holman.

Johnson then fled.

During the ensuing police pursuit, authorities say Johnson rammed his pickup truck into a home on Northwest 14th Street and continued running on foot.

He eventually forced his way into another occupied residence, where he reportedly shot at two dogs, injuring six people inside the home in the process.

Amarillo police officers arrived around 8:15 a.m. and found Johnson outside wearing body armor and armed with a rifle.

According to police, Johnson opened fire on the responding officers. Multiple officers returned fire, killing him.

Because Johnson died, there will be no criminal trial. The conclusion that he killed Harper and Holman and carried out the subsequent attacks comes from the law-enforcement investigation.

Johnson also had an extensive criminal history stretching back more than two decades. He had previously been convicted of aggravated robbery and evidence tampering, served time in prison following a reckless-driving pursuit, and repeatedly violated probation.

But his criminal record isn't the most important part of what happened that morning.

Aaron “Bacon” Harper and Courtney Holman were shot to death simply because they were where Dustin Johnson decided to bring his violence. Six more people were injured. Two dogs were shot at. And an ordinary Sunday morning became a fucking nightmare for people who had nothing to do with whatever was happening inside his head.
