Former Brooke High School Principal Eric James Charged After Hidden Cameras Were Found in Girls’ Locker Rooms

Former West Virginia High School Principal Eric James Is Accused of Hiding Cameras in Girls’ Locker Rooms

Eric James was the principal of Brooke High School in Wellsburg, West Virginia, when investigators say multiple hidden recording devices were discovered inside areas where female students changed clothes.

The investigation began in September 2026 after a school custodian discovered a suspicious device disguised as an ink pen while cleaning.

Authorities subsequently found four hidden-camera devices positioned throughout female athletic and changing areas, including the physical education locker room, varsity locker room, and a dressing area used by the school's dance team.

According to law enforcement, James later admitted placing the recording devices in the locker rooms.

James now faces four felony charges, including three counts of felony wiretapping involving intentional interception of electronic communications and one count of breaking and entering a non-residence.

He was released on a $200,000 surety bond and placed under strict GPS monitoring. His conditions reportedly prohibit him from entering Brooke County Schools property or having direct or indirect contact with children.

The Brooke County Board of Education suspended James and later voted unanimously to terminate his employment contract.

State police, the Brooke County Sheriff's Department, and the FBI have continued examining electronic equipment seized from the school and James's residence.

The criminal case remains pending. Despite the reported admission regarding placement of the devices, James has not been convicted of the charges, and investigators are still determining the extent of what may have been recorded.

The location of those cameras is what makes this so fucking disturbing.

These were girls' locker rooms. Places where students had every reason to believe they could change clothes without being secretly recorded. The man entrusted with running their school is accused of putting hidden cameras inside those spaces.
