Former Police Officer Taylor Staff Pleaded Guilty to Five Felony Sex Crimes

Taylor Staff was a Springfield, Illinois, police officer when allegations surfaced involving three separate victims.

The Illinois State Police investigation led to his arrest in 2021.

In April 2025, Staff pleaded guilty to five felony counts, including aggravated criminal sexual abuse, custodial sexual misconduct, and criminal sexual abuse. More serious sexual assault charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

In July 2025, he was sentenced to 6½ years in prison, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

Staff received credit for nearly 1,000 days he had already spent in custody and on electronic monitoring.

He is required to register as a sex offender for life and is permanently prohibited from serving as a law enforcement officer again.

A police officer was given enormous authority over other people.

He used that position while committing sexual crimes. Now he can never wear a badge again.
