Raymond Joseph Liddy was not just an attorney. He spent years working inside California's justice system, including serving as a Deputy Attorney General.
He was also the son of Watergate conspirator G. Gordon Liddy.
In 2017, authorities searched Liddy's Coronado home after investigators traced online activity involving child sexual abuse material to him. Investigators found explicit material involving minors on his devices.
In 2020, a federal jury convicted Liddy of possessing child pornography, the statutory terminology used in his case.
He was sentenced to five years of federal probation.
No prison.
The consequences did eventually reach his legal career. In 2023, the State Bar of California formally disbarred Liddy, citing a criminal conviction involving moral turpitude. He remains prohibited from practicing law in California.
A man who once represented the government in criminal cases became a convicted offender himself.
A federal conviction for possessing child sexual abuse material resulted in probation, not a prison cell.
