Former LAPD Cop William Rodriguez Was Convicted of Rape After DNA Cracked a Cold Case.

Former LAPD Officer William Rodriguez Raped a Woman. DNA Caught Him Years Later.

William Rodriguez spent a decade with the Los Angeles Police Department.

In 2019, he was arrested after an investigation into a separate sexual assault allegation produced a DNA cold-case hit connecting him to the rape of a woman in 2015.

That woman had never gotten her answer.

Four years later, DNA gave her one.

Rodriguez went to trial in 2023. A jury acquitted him in the separate 2018 case, but found him guilty of forcible rape for the 2015 assault.

He was sentenced to six years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Ten years wearing an LAPD badge.

Then a DNA match connected him to an unsolved rape.

The case had gone cold. The evidence hadn't.
