Gregory Gabler: He Pleaded Guilty to a Felony After a Campus Sexual Assault. He Received No Prison Time.

In September 2024, Gregory Gabler was an Indiana University student when he sexually assaulted a female student inside an on-campus dorm room.

Court records described injuries including bruising and bite marks. The survivor escaped after Gabler fell asleep.

Gabler was arrested days later and initially faced serious criminal charges.

In May 2026, he accepted a plea agreement. Two felony rape charges were dismissed, and Gabler pleaded guilty to Level 6 felony criminal confinement resulting in bodily injury.

His sentence?

Six years of probation, with the prison sentence suspended.

No active jail or prison time.

Gabler was permitted to return to Florida to serve his probation and was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. A permanent no-contact order protecting the survivor also remained in place.

Prosecutors said the plea agreement was reached in consultation with the survivor and her family, in part to spare her from having to testify publicly at trial. That context matters.

So does the outcome.

Two rape charges were dismissed. He pleaded guilty to a felony involving bodily injury. He walked away with probation.
