HSI Supervisory Agent Joshua Jivan Was Arrested in a Child-Sex Sting, Then Allegedly Tried to Explain It With His Federal Badge.

HSI Supervisory Agent Joshua Jivan Was Arrested After Allegedly Trying to Meet Someone He Believed Was a Child for Sex

Joshua Jivan wasn't a low-level federal employee.

He was a supervisory special agent with Homeland Security Investigations.

Then he showed up in an undercover child-sex sting.

On June 2, 2023, Jivan was arrested during a two-day operation conducted by the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and the Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Undercover officers were posing online as 13- and 14-year-old children.

According to police, Jivan communicated with one of those undercover accounts, allegedly solicited sex, and arranged to meet the person in Las Vegas.

He was arrested when he arrived at the designated meeting location.

Then came another remarkable detail.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report, Jivan initially showed officers his federal HSI badge and credentials and claimed he was there conducting his own human-trafficking investigation.

HSI officials quickly determined that wasn't true, according to police.

Investigators also alleged that Jivan admitted deleting the messaging application from his phone before arriving.

He was charged with luring a child for sexual acts using technology, a felony under Nevada law.

Jivan was one of 14 adults arrested in the sting.

The information here documents an arrest and criminal charge, not a conviction, so the allegations should remain described as allegations unless a later court disposition establishes otherwise.

But the institutional irony is impossible to ignore.

A supervisory Homeland Security Investigations agent allegedly showed up to meet someone he believed was a child for sex, then pulled out his federal badge and claimed he was investigating human trafficking.
