Kirby D. Anthony was 23 years old when he murdered three members of his own family inside their Anchorage, Alaska, home.
On March 14, 1987, Anthony entered the home of his uncle, John Newman, while Newman was away.
Inside were Newman's wife, Nancy Newman, 33, and their daughters, Melissa, 8, and Angela, 3.
Anthony brutally murdered all three.
Nancy and Melissa were also sexually assaulted. Melissa was restrained with duct tape during the attack.
Anthony had reportedly been staying with the family before being asked to move out and quickly became a suspect. Investigators found evidence linking him to the murders, including a distinctive towel pattern associated with his attempt to clean himself at the crime scene.
When police later showed him photographs from the house, investigators said Anthony became visibly upset about the kidnapping charge involving Melissa, reportedly shouting:
“What is this kidnapping stuff?”
Not about the murders.
Not about the sexual assaults.
About the kidnapping charge.
Anthony was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of kidnapping.
He was sentenced to 317 years in prison.
Investigators also linked him through forensic evidence to an earlier Idaho cold case involving the severe injury and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.
But Nancy, Melissa and Angela should never disappear behind the brutality of the man who killed them.
Nancy was 33. Melissa was 8. Angela was 3. Three fucking lives, not three counts on Kirby Anthony's sentence.
