LASD Detective Neil Kimball Investigated a 15-Year-Old Girl’s Rape. Then He Sexually Assaulted Her Too.

LASD Sex Crimes Detective Neil Kimball Sexually Assaulted the 15-Year-Old Girl Whose Rape He Was Investigating

Neil David Kimball was a detective with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

He worked in the Special Victims Bureau investigating sex crimes.

In 2017, a 15-year-old girl reported that she had been sexually assaulted. Kimball was assigned to investigate her case.

Then he sexually assaulted her himself.

The abuse came to light after another detective took over the investigation and the girl’s father reported what Kimball had done.

And there had already been warnings.

Kimball had faced allegations of sexual misconduct in 2008 and 2014, but the district attorney’s office declined to prosecute those earlier cases.

In 2019, Kimball pleaded guilty to felony lewd acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse.

He was sentenced to three years in state prison, ordered to pay the victim $50,000, and required to register as a sex offender for life.

Afterward, LASD reviewed hundreds of cases Kimball had handled to determine whether any other victims had been compromised.

A 15-year-old girl survived a sexual assault and did exactly what we tell victims they are supposed to do.

She went to law enforcement.

Then the detective investigating her rape sexually assaulted her too.
