Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Edgar Garcia Was Charged With Sexually Assaulting an Intoxicated Woman

Edgar Fidel Garcia was an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the Laredo Sector when a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her.

The alleged assault occurred on June 19, 2023.

According to the woman’s report to Laredo police, Garcia invited her and a group of friends to an after-party at his home after they had been drinking at a local sports cafe.

She said she was highly intoxicated when Garcia sexually assaulted her inside the residence.

Following an investigation, authorities obtained a felony warrant for Garcia.

On January 4, 2024, he turned himself in to the Laredo Police Department and was booked into the Webb County Jail on a charge of second-degree sexual assault.

He was later released on bond.

Garcia has unequivocally denied the allegation. His attorney said he cooperated with investigators and expressed confidence that he would be vindicated.

The information here documents an arrest and criminal charge, not a conviction. Garcia is presumed innocent unless the charge is proven or admitted in court.

For the Accountability Archive, that distinction needs to remain clear.

A Border Patrol agent was accused by an intoxicated woman of sexually assaulting her inside his home. Police investigated, obtained a felony warrant, and arrested him. What happens next belongs to the courts.
