Former Police Captain David Bourque Had More Than 22,000 Images and 4,000 Videos of Child Sexual Abuse.

David L. Bourque was a captain with the Granby Police Department in Connecticut.

Then investigators traced child sexual abuse material being shared online back to an account registered to him.

In April 2011, federal and state authorities arrested Bourque after an undercover Connecticut State Police investigation.

When investigators searched his home and police department office, they found what prosecutors described as a massive collection of child sexual abuse material stored on his personal laptop and external hard drives.

More than 22,000 images.

More than 4,000 videos.

And according to prosecutors, Bourque knew exactly how investigators hunted these crimes because he had investigated a separate child sexual abuse material case himself while working as a police officer.

He allegedly used that law-enforcement knowledge in an effort to avoid detection while building his own collection.

Bourque was placed on administrative leave and resigned from the Granby Police Department.

In July 2011, he pleaded guilty to one federal count of receiving and distributing child pornography, the statutory name of the offense.

In February 2012, a federal judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

The numbers are horrifying, but they aren't the most important part.

Those 22,000 images and 4,000 videos weren't fucking collectibles.

They documented children being sexually abused. And David Bourque used knowledge gained as a police officer investigating that abuse to help conceal his own participation in consuming it.
