Police Chief Nicholas Hunnicutt Sexually Abused a 14-Year-Old Girl, Then Left Alaska

Nicholas J. Hunnicutt was the police chief of Saint Paul, Alaska, when he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl in 2015.

Shortly afterward, Hunnicutt resigned and left Alaska. He moved to Arkansas, where he continued working in law enforcement as a police officer.

Nearly two years later, authorities arrested him in Arkansas and extradited him back to Alaska.

The case dragged on for years before finally reaching trial in 2023.

An Anchorage jury found Hunnicutt guilty of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

In January 2024, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with eight years suspended, leaving seven years to serve.

He will also face 10 years of probation after his release.

Hunnicutt was the chief of police.

He left the state after the crime and managed to put on another badge somewhere else.

A child deserved protection. The police chief became the person she needed protection from.
