San Antonio Police Officer Juan Ruiz-Carrillo Was Charged With Sexually Abusing a Child

Juan Ruiz-Carrillo was a five-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department when he was arrested in May 2016.

He was 47 years old.

According to the arrest affidavit, Ruiz-Carrillo was accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl repeatedly over approximately four years, beginning when she was 15 years old.

The girl first disclosed the abuse to a church leader about a year before Ruiz-Carrillo's arrest. According to the account here, her family confronted him and the abuse temporarily stopped.

Then it allegedly resumed.

On May 1, 2016, she disclosed the abuse again, this time to a youth pastor. Her parents and law enforcement were notified immediately.

Detectives with SAPD's Special Victims Unit investigated, established probable cause, and obtained an arrest warrant.

Ruiz-Carrillo was arrested on May 2 and charged with second-degree felony sexual assault of a child. His bond was initially set at $75,000.

SAPD placed him on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.

The information here establishes an arrest and charge, not a conviction, so I wouldn't describe the allegations as proven without finding the eventual court disposition.

But the allegation at the center of the case is devastating:

A teenage girl said a San Antonio police officer sexually abused her for years, beginning when she was 15. She spoke up once. It allegedly started again. Then she spoke up again.
