Former San Diego County Deputy Jaylen Fleer Pleaded Guilty to Sex Crimes Against Children

Jaylen Devon Fleer was a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy working as a corrections officer at the San Diego Central Jail.

Then investigators started looking into what he was doing when he wasn't at work.

The case involved four identified victims between 12 and 14 years old. Prosecutors said Fleer had also been communicating with more than 40 other people through social media.

In 2021, Fleer pleaded guilty to 20 felony and misdemeanor charges involving sex crimes against minors, including lewd acts and luring a minor.

He was sentenced to 12 years in state prison.

At sentencing, officials said Fleer had offered victims money and used his law-enforcement status to intimidate them.

That part matters.

He wasn't just an adult targeting children.

He was a sheriff's deputy who could use the weight of a badge to make children even more afraid to speak.
