Senior CBP Officer Edmundo Palacios Sexually Abused a 12-Year-Old Girl. He Got 16 Years.

Edmundo Palacios was a 15-year veteran and senior officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, stationed at the Lincoln-Juarez Port of Entry in Laredo, Texas.

In April 2013, Palacios was arrested after allegations surfaced that he had sexually touched a 12-year-old girl.

He was initially charged with three counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

In July 2014, Palacios pleaded guilty to indecency with a child/sexual contact.

He was sentenced to 16 years in Texas state prison.

Palacios's case later became part of broader reporting into sexual misconduct within CBP and the Border Patrol. Investigations raised questions about how the agency screened and monitored personnel during a period of aggressive hiring.
