Shamar Elkins Killed Eight Children in a Shreveport Domestic-Violence Mass Shooting Before Police Killed Him

Shamar Elkins Killed Eight Children During a Domestic-Violence Rampage in Shreveport

On April 19, 2026, a domestic dispute in Shreveport, Louisiana, escalated into a mass shooting that left eight children dead and two women critically wounded.

Police identified the gunman as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins.

The children were between 3 and 11 years old. Seven were reportedly Elkins' biological children. The eighth was their cousin.

The violence unfolded across multiple locations in Shreveport's Cedar Grove neighborhood.

According to authorities, the rampage began at the home of Elkins' girlfriend before moving to another residence, where the children were killed. One child and an adult woman reportedly attempted to escape by jumping from the roof of the house.

Two women survived but were critically injured: Elkins' wife, the mother of seven of the children, and another woman identified as his girlfriend.

Elkins fled the scene, triggering a police pursuit.

The chase ended in an armed confrontation with Shreveport police. Elkins was shot and killed by responding officers.

Early reports incorrectly described his death as a suicide. Law enforcement subsequently confirmed that police killed Elkins during the confrontation.

Because Elkins died that day, there will be no criminal trial.

Eight children also died that day.

Eight children. Ages 3 to 11. Seven of them were his own. One child reportedly tried to escape by jumping from a fucking roof. Whatever started between the adults, those children had absolutely nothing to do with it. They deserved to grow up.
