Shaun James McKenna Admitted Raping a 13-Year-Old Girl. He Did Not Spend a Day in Prison.

Shaun James McKenna Admitted Sex Crimes Against Three Females. He Did Not Go to Prison.

Shaun James McKenna was a former British Army soldier whose crimes spanned years.

In February 2026, he pleaded guilty in Scotland to sexual offenses against three females.

The offenses included the violent rape of a 13-year-old girl inside her tent during a family camping holiday, the sexual assault of an adult woman during another camping trip, and additional sexual offenses dating back years.

Then came sentencing.

In July 2026, the judge said McKenna's crimes would ordinarily warrant a lengthy prison sentence. But McKenna had advanced Huntington's disease and required specialized, around-the-clock care. The court concluded that prison could not safely provide it.

Instead, McKenna received a three-year community payback order with intensive supervision and was placed indefinitely on the sex offenders register.

The decision devastated his victims.

One survivor said she felt "failed" by the justice system, arguing that while McKenna's illness kept him out of prison, the people he harmed were left carrying the consequences of his crimes.

His medical condition explains the court's decision.

It does not erase what he did.

The women and girl he harmed deserved accountability. They deserved to see the seriousness of those crimes reflected in what happened afterward.
