Bal Khadka Accused of Beating His Wife to Death With a Flashlight in Front of Their Three Children

On October 11, 2026, Lila Darjee Khadka was fatally beaten inside her apartment in Burlington, Vermont, while three children witnessed the attack.

Her husband, Bal Khadka, 44, has been charged with second-degree murder and three counts of child cruelty.

According to court documents, Khadka accused his wife of infidelity before allegedly striking her at least 10 times with a large flashlight.

The children, ages 3, 10, and 10, were present during the assault.

One of them reportedly recorded the attack.

Police say the recording captured the sounds of repeated blows and the children screaming as their mother was beaten.

When officers arrived, they found Lila unconscious in bed with severe head injuries.

She was rushed to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where she died.

Prosecutors have emphasized the extraordinary trauma inflicted on the children, particularly because one of them recorded the violence.

Khadka was initially arrested on assault charges, which were upgraded to murder after Lila died.

On October 13, 2026, he appeared in court and pleaded not guilty. He was ordered held without bail.

The charges remain pending, and Khadka has not been convicted.
