On September 23, 2026, 65-year-old Carlos Shelton shot and killed his wife and adult son inside their home in Flower Mound, Texas, before dying by suicide.
The victims were Lilda Shelton, 63, and Brian Shelton, 27.
Police discovered the family after relatives became concerned when they couldn't reach them and the family members had missed work.
Officers conducting a welfare check found all three dead inside the house.
According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office, Lilda and Brian had both been shot in the head. Their deaths were ruled homicides.
Carlos died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators determined that he had killed his wife and son before turning the gun on himself.
Authorities have not established an official motive.
However, relatives reported that Carlos had been experiencing serious health problems that resulted in mounting medical bills and financial difficulties.
Family members said he had become increasingly withdrawn as those pressures grew.
But financial problems don't explain away murder.
Lilda and Brian were two separate human beings with lives of their own. Whatever Carlos was facing, he had no right to decide that their lives should end alongside his.
Because Carlos died, there was no criminal trial. Authorities classified the deaths as a domestic double homicide and suicide.
Lilda was 63. Brian was 27. A wife and son were murdered inside their own home by the man who was supposed to love them.
Medical bills can be overwhelming. Financial hardship can be devastating. Neither gives anyone the fucking right to kill their family.
