Ernesto Caballeiro Murdered Three Women Protecting His Newborn Son, Then Vanished With the Baby

Ernesto Caballeiro Murdered Three Generations of Women, Abducted His Infant Son, and Died by Suicide

On January 28, 2020, 49-year-old Ernesto Caballeiro shot and killed three women inside a home in southwest Miami-Dade County, Florida, before abducting his 1-week-old son.

The victims were:

  • Arlety Garcia-Valdez, 40, Caballeiro's partner

  • Isabel Valdez-Gonzalez, 60, Arlety's mother

  • Lina Gonzalez-Licor, 84, Arlety's grandmother

All three women were found dead from gunshot wounds.

Family members said the women had been trying to protect newborn Andrew Caballeiro when they were killed.

After the murders, Caballeiro fled the residence with his infant son, prompting authorities to issue a statewide Amber Alert.

The following day, January 29, Pasco County deputies discovered Caballeiro's white passenger van in a wooded area near Blanton, Florida, more than 300 miles from the murder scene.

Caballeiro's body was found approximately 50 yards from the vehicle. Investigators determined that he had died from a self-inflicted rifle wound.

But baby Andrew was nowhere to be found.

Inside the van, investigators discovered old receipts and a pacifier, but no car seat and no evidence establishing what had happened to the newborn.

A witness later reported seeing an unidentified blonde woman inside the van with Caballeiro before his death, raising the possibility that Andrew had been handed over to someone else.

Authorities continued investigating that lead, hoping the child had survived.

Because Caballeiro died, he was never prosecuted for the three murders. Law enforcement identified him as the person responsible through its investigation.

Arlety was 40. Isabel was 60. Lina was 84. Three generations of women were killed while reportedly trying to protect a baby who had been alive for just seven days. And after their murders, that little boy disappeared.
