Kelvin Chiu Charged With Sexually Assaulting a 16-Year-Old Student and Recording the Alleged Abuse

High School Athletic Trainer Kelvin Chiu Accused of Sexually Assaulting a 16-Year-Old Student and Recording It

On October 9, 2026, Kelvin Chiu, 31, a former assistant athletic trainer at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California, was arrested following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student.

According to the San Jose Police Department, the student reported that Chiu sexually battered her while treating a sports injury and recorded the assault on his cellphone.

The student came forward on October 8.

The following day, investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Chiu at his home in Fremont.

During a search of his phone, detectives reportedly discovered video footage of the alleged assault, along with additional child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Chiu was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges including sexual battery, annoying or molesting a minor, and producing and possessing child sexual abuse material.

Before working at Archbishop Mitty, Chiu had spent approximately four years at San Francisco State University.

After the student's family reported the allegations, Archbishop Mitty placed Chiu on administrative leave and began cooperating with investigators.

Authorities believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to contact the San Jose Police Department at 408-277-3214.

The charges remain pending, and Chiu has not been convicted.

A 16-year-old girl went to a school athletic trainer for help with an injury. She should have been able to trust the adult responsible for her care.

Instead, she reported being sexually assaulted and recorded by the very person who was supposed to help her heal.

Children should never have to wonder whether the adults entrusted with their safety are the ones they need protection from.
