McKay Hutton Murdered His Wife, 8-Week-Old Daughter, and Mother in Alaska Hotel Murder-Suicide

McKay Hutton Murdered His Wife, 8-Week-Old Daughter, and Mother Before Killing Himself in an Alaska Hotel

On November 25, 2016, 22-year-old McKay Hutton shot and killed three members of his family inside a hotel room in Fairbanks, Alaska, before dying by suicide.

The victims were:

  • Emily McDonald, 22, his wife

  • Teagan Hutton, 8 weeks old, their daughter

  • Linda Hutton, 54, his mother

The family was staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites while preparing to move out of Alaska.

That afternoon, hotel employees heard what sounded like gunfire and called authorities.

When police arrived, they found a man crying in a second-floor hallway. He directed officers toward a nearby room.

Inside, police discovered four bodies, all dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Investigators determined that McKay had shot his wife, infant daughter, and mother before turning the gun on himself.

Another young child belonging to McKay and Emily was not at the hotel and was confirmed safe.

According to statements given to investigators, the family had been preparing to leave the state. Friends and former coworkers described the couple as happy, and nothing publicly known suggested that such violence was coming.

Authorities never established a definitive motive.

Because McKay died, there was no criminal trial.

Emily was 22. Linda was 54. Teagan was eight weeks old.

Teagan had barely been alive long enough to recognize the world around her. Emily had an entire adulthood ahead of her. Linda should have had years left with her family.

Three generations of women were killed in one hotel room. And one of them was a baby who hadn't even lived long enough to see her first fucking Christmas.
