On March 27, 2026, Patrick J. King, 27, shot and killed his girlfriend and two young girls inside their home in Plainville, Connecticut.
The victims were:
Felisha A. Matthews, 31, his girlfriend
Mileena “Molina” Matthews, 12, Felisha's daughter
Ava R. King, 4, the daughter King and Felisha shared
That afternoon, King called his sister and confessed that he had shot his family. He told her he intended to kill himself.
His sister immediately called 911.
When police arrived, King refused to leave the house.
Officers surrounded the property and spent approximately two hours attempting to negotiate with him.
During those negotiations, King reportedly said he didn't want to go back to jail.
Police eventually deployed a tactical team and entered the home, where they found King dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Inside, they discovered Felisha, Mileena, and Ava.
All three had been shot to death.
The family had moved into the house just two months earlier. According to local authorities, police had no previous domestic violence reports or calls for service at the address.
King legally owned the firearm used in the killings and held a valid carry permit.
Because he died, there was no criminal trial.
Three people who should have had decades ahead of them.
A mother who should have watched her daughters grow up. A 12-year-old who should have been worrying about school and friends. A little girl who should have been learning to read, making messes, and asking a thousand questions.
King reportedly told police he didn't want to go back to jail.
Felisha, Mileena, and Ava didn't get to decide where they wanted to go. He made that decision for them.
