Retired SFPD Sergeant Kevin Mannix Murdered His Estranged Wife and Daughter Amid Their Separation

Retired San Francisco Police Sergeant Kevin Mannix Murdered His Estranged Wife and Daughter Before Killing Himself

On October 11, 2026, 68-year-old Kevin Mannix, a retired San Francisco police sergeant, shot and killed his estranged wife and their adult daughter inside the family's home near Mill Valley, California.

The victims were Ann Mannix, 65, and Katherine “Katie” Mannix, 24.

Around 5 p.m., Marin County sheriff's deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the family's home in the Strawberry neighborhood.

A family member reportedly escaped by locking themselves inside a bedroom and climbing out a window.

When deputies entered the house, they found Kevin, Ann, and Katie dead.

Investigators determined that Kevin had shot his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself.

The couple had reportedly been separating. According to a close friend, Ann had decided to leave her husband approximately two weeks before the murders. She believed the separation was for the best and had expressed hope for her future.

That future was stolen from her.

Both Kevin and Ann had spent decades working for the San Francisco Police Department.

Kevin served as a sergeant for 27 years before retiring in 2018.

Ann spent more than 30 years with the department, retiring as a deputy chief in 2021. She was a trailblazer who broke barriers as the first woman to lead the department's tactical company and the first woman to join its SWAT team.

She spent much of her professional life in law enforcement. Yet she was killed inside her own home by a man who had also worn a badge.

Authorities have not publicly established an official motive, and because Kevin died, there will be no criminal trial.

Ann Mannix was 65. Katie was just 24. Ann had decided she wanted a different future. Her husband made sure neither she nor their daughter would have one.

A badge doesn't make a man incapable of domestic violence. And retirement doesn't make him any less fucking dangerous.
